Games We Play

Did you have a meaningful encounter with a stranger while playing online? Is there a game you played with a loved one as a kid and it always makes you feel a little nostalgic? Did your ex play stupid mind games with you and deplete your life force?

“Games We Play” is a collection of drawings, comics, stories, and poems about lessons learned in love and life, unified by gamey themes. This does not strictly mean video games, and can extend to board games, mobile games, playground games, roadtrip-car games, anything you can think of. Your submission can be bitter, happy, funny, sweet, pensive, nonsensical. Just take the zine’s concept as a jumping off point, and have fun making art.

Submission period: February 14- March 31.

Themes and prompts that may inspire you: instructions, cheating, treasure, shortcuts, gear, save, reset, taking turns, control, mana, boss, redemption, inventory, collecting, missing pieces, winning, losing, game over.

REQUIREMENTS:
-300 dpi
-5.5” x 8.5” (1650 x 2550 px)
-no more than 5 pages per submission
-black and white only

The zine is to be printed strictly in black and white (no grey tones) so please keep this in mind (as well as page size in regard to level of detail) with submissions. All accepted participants will be sent a copy, and the organizer will distribute additional copies locally to recoup production costs. In a year, the zine will be available to read for free online. Happy art-making!
